Mercury MerCruiser’s revolutionary Axius propulsion system and the Verado supercharged FourStroke outboard engine have each collected a “Best of the Year” Award from America’s respected MotorBoating magazine.
Axius was named “Best Sterndrive” and the Verado took home the “Best Redesign” Award.
Each year, MotorBoating – which was first published in 1908 and has a monthly circulation of more than 134,000 – selects an exclusive group of engines, boats and electronic systems which have made a significant and notable impact in the marine community. The Awards recognise the most innovative products on the market today.
MotorBoating Editorial Director Peter Janssen presented the Awards to Kevin Grodzki, president of Mercury MerCruiser, and Mark Schwabero, president of Mercury Outboards.
Designed for twin sterndrive boats, the Axius propulsion system makes piloting a larger boat effortless and intuitive. Using a joystick to control speed and direction, Axius allows even inexperienced captains to easily and accurately maneuver larger boats in the tightest possible conditions – moving laterally, at an angle, forward, backward or spinning on the spot.
Axius also has thrust control from idle to seven knots; Docking Mode which prevents overcompensation of joystick movement; Auto Heading for one-touch heading lock-in with simple course corrections; and Advance Auto Yaw Control to hold the bow at a precise heading for effortless lateral movement.
Mercury Marine’s Verado outboard engine now provides increased fuel efficiency and more power with the same fantastic reliability.
Mercury tests show the redesigned 150 hp Verado now consumes 22 percent less fuel at wide open throttle, and 18 percent less fuel on average at cruise speed.
Furthermore, the enhanced 150 hp Verado consumes 20 to 40 percent less fuel through the power band than the competition*.
